Long-term Program: Secondary School Scholarship & Service Program
While primary education is free, secondary education is partially subsidized by the Kenya Government, and only 10% of students get more than an 8th grade education. KSF and its partners seek to provide educational scholarships to cover all associated costs—tuition, textbooks, and uniforms. KSF hopes that in the future, the students would also receive computer training. (The computers will be sent to the Schools affiliated to KSF through a concurrent project.) Computer skills are considered an important skill in getting higher-paying jobs in Kenya.
Beyond creating productive members of the economy, the secondary school component also aims to create community leaders and spark the call to service in each sponsored student. In addition to keeping their grades up, sponsored students will have service duties to fulfill. Each recipient of a Scholarship is expected to participate in a Community Activity that benefits the general Society.
The scholarships are a means to prepare the next generation of leaders in the community. The education component should serve to prepare these students to be business or professional leaders. The service component should serve to prepare students to understand the importance of taking the lead in giving back and helping others.
Costs to attend a national School average seven hundred dollars ($700.00) per year, for a full cost of two thousand eight hundred dollars ($2,800.00) over the life of the program, which is well beyond the means of families making, on average, $360 per year. HOW CAN I HELP?
The first way you can take action is through a financial contribution. The focus of KSF is to do the most good with the least amount of funds. Every single donation will go a long way in helping multiple people. Use the donation form to make your contribution.
As a Non Profit Organization, we pride ourselves with the fact that all the resources that have been raised so far have gone towards funding the scholarship.
Beyond Finances, any expertise in administering scholarship programs (student selection and monitoring), in educational or technological training to non-technical personnel or in any other related field will be greatly appreciated. KSF will take the lead in all aspects of the project on the ground but any assistance would be welcome.
KSF certainly welcomes any and all assistance or leadership service clubs or individuals have to offer. Please Contact Us for details.
